It looks very simple…….but extremely hard to find

You should almost ignore this picture postcard. No exciting picture at all, simple stamp and no postmark of interest.

The rest of this article is for Netherlands+Philately members only. Please log in to keep on reading.

Plenty of picture postcards can be found with the stamp on the image side. The card was sent from ‘s Gravenhage on June 30, 1942. What immediately attracts attention, is the address also on the picture side. Normally that will appear on the reverse side of the card. The card has been sent to Apeldoorn. Right, shipped within the Netherlands. The postage of five cent is correct (August 20, 1940 – November 1, 1946). Valid for a long period, so nothing spectacular.

But, stamps on the image side of the card were only allowed in international traffic.

There is no postage due on the card nor any sign that someone in the post office noticed this. The text of the card does not show any sign that the card was sent by a philatelist who wanted to test the system.
