Mededeelingen van den Nederlandschen Bond

The mededelingen (notices) of the Dutch Federation of Associations of Stamp Collectors (the predecessor of the KNBF) were published in the monthly magazine Philatelie. The KNBF still publishes its notices (Federation pages) in the monthly magazine Filatelie.

During the Second World War, this was forcibly interrupted. By order of the occupying authorities, the magazine was no longer permitted to appear after the June issue of Philatelie. Only after the liberation the publication resumed, and in September 1945 the first post-war issue was released.

This is the issue which was sent

Following the publication ban on Philatelie, the Federation was left without a means of communication. Permission was granted by the occupiers to publish the mededelingen  separately. This led to the creation of Mededeelingen van den Nederlandschen Bond van Vereenigingen van Postzegelverzamelaars, edited by P.S. van ’t Haaff. The intention was to issue it monthly, which succeeded during the first year, with 12 editions appearing. In July 1944, the numbering was adjusted; that issue was numbered 1 (13).

The first issue, where it is announced that the monthly Philatelie will not be published anymore

It continued to appear monthly until September. The subsequent issue was numbered 4–5 (16–17). The final issue appeared in June 1945, when the Netherlands had been liberated; this was numbered 8–12 (20–24).

The last issue, where it is announced that monthly Philatelie will be published again

The publication was folded and sent to members with postage affixed. Shown here is the September 1944 issue, which was sent from Bussum on 20 October 1944. The original sender’s address was crossed out. Smeulders died in October 1944 as a result of a wartime accident.
